Have you got concerns about lighting scented candles around your newborn baby?
Lots of fresh air for a baby is good, but just like introducing them to food, introducing them to scents is important too. Tests have proven that scents are strongly linked to memory so why not start the child’s life with good, comforting memories of a loving home with a scent it can relate to that experience for the rest of its life.
I’d like to point out, I am an aunty and I have seen the way a child develops, I have watched him decide if he does or doesn’t like something and been on edge of my seat as he has been given something new for the first time, in case he has a reaction. Like anything with a baby, its trial and error! Every baby is different and you wont find out if it has a problem until it has a problem!
Babies are very sensitive to their surroundings, temperature and atmosphere. And if they don’t like something they will be sure to let you know all about it! If it turns out a scented candle doesn’t agree with your newborn, dont light it!
Alternatively, you can also wait until your little darling has gone to sleep and treat yourself to a hot bath with a cup of tea (or wine!) and a relaxing scented candle in the evening and not be in fear that the candle will release toxins into the air that your child will breath in. Read on for how soy wax is the safe choice…
So how to choose a safe scented candle for babies?
Don’t light the scented candle in the room the baby sleeps in because you don’t want to be too much for his senses to take, and the obvious fire risk if you forget about it and leave the room (the horrible baby brain). Also only light it for about an hour at a time, so as to be gentle on their new wee lungs.
Make sure it is soy wax, NOT PARAFFIN, with a certified fragrance oil or essential oil and a lead free wick. The benefit of soy wax over paraffin is that soy wax doesn’t produce smoke when lit properly. Our soy wax, for example, contains no herbicides, pesticides or toxins so they are a much better choice for your family, indoor environment and it is safe for asthmatics too.
Then pick a fragrance that will sooth your little one and help him into a state of relaxation. Tweet This If you don’t like lavender, choose something that is combined with it. Bergamot, camomile or sandalwood are good too.
